July 09. G.I. Joe Press Launch On Board HMS Belfast
Fresh from the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite G.I. Joe team will board HMS Belfast for the film's press launch on 22nd July 2009.
With Royal Marines performing hand to hand combat stunts, photocalls and press interviews for the cast, including Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, HMS Belfast is the perfect setting for what promises to be a high-octane, action-packed day.
A finger buffet will be provided for press and talent in the Gun room and Guard and Ante rooms before they are called to the Ship's Company for the press conference. With military precision the photocall is due to take place on the ship's quarterdeck with the press positioned in the gun turret.
From the director of The Mummy and Val Helsing, Stephen Sommers, the G.I. Joe team uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment to fight the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos.
HMS Belfast was launched in March 1938 and served throughout the Second World War, playing a leading role in the Battle of North Cape and in the Normandy Landings. She later supported UN forces in Korea and remained in service until 1965. In 1971 she was saved for the nation as a unique reminder of Britain's Naval Heritage and is the only surviving example of the great fleets of big gun armoured warships built for the Royal Navy in the first half of the twentieth century.G.I.
